GIS PLANET is a global, independent and open event dedicated to Geographic Information. It will continue the strong tradition begun by GISPLANET 98, bringing together the world-wide GIS research and applications community in a forum for discussion of GIS from a global perspective. GIS PLANET is unique in providing this perspective, and thus augments the roles being played by more specialized and more regionally focused conferences. It will feature presentations on the cutting edge of GIS, and on developments likely to dominate the field over the coming decade, as well as on current GIS practice and on research in GIScience. It should be of value to all GIS professionals with an interest in the future of the technology, the science that underlies it, and its applications. GIS PLANET will feature an exhibition, business meetings, preconference workshops, special events, seminars, poster sessions, paper sessions, and keynote presentations. BE SPATIAL is the key concept in a time of great challenges, when the use of GI is about to change our way of living, to an increasing level of mobility within a framework of convergence. |
"GIS PLANET provides a stimulating meeting-ground for people working on applications of GIS in cutting-edge areas, and on new research directions for GIS. Lisbon is a perfect setting for the meeting, with its historical role in discovery and mapping, and its modern role as an exciting city. I am very pleased to be part of GIS PLANET, and am looking forward to a milestone conference." Michael Goodchild University of California, Santa Barbara GIS PLANET 2005 Chairman |
